Hello everyone! Today I’ll be introducing a topic that not many talk about but is very beneficial to gamers who just can’t get that great wifi or bandwidth needed for their computers. So let’s get started here:
1. Increasing router range – This is a cheap method I’ve found out that can substantially improve your router range with a little modification on your router. What you want to do is get a tinfoil can, like a beer can, and make sure it’s cleanly cut through on one side, so that you can wrap it around your router’s antenna. This is a little DIY tricks used by gamers that will surely help you with increasing wifi strength. Sure it’ll make your router look ghetto or whatever but hey, it’s worth it. Here’s a little picture on what it should look like:

2. Controlling Bandwidth Hogging – You may have a lot of people using up the bandwidth at your house, or you might be running multiple downloads while on YouTube at the same time. So to minimize bandwidth hogging you want to use something called “Quality of Service,” or QoS for short. This prioritizes certain applications to use bandwidth more than others and you can basically keep shifting between the applications you need most at the moment. You can also use Windows Task Manager to set the priority to “high” for certain applications by right clicking it, going to “set priority” and clicking on high.
3. A little “hacking” to increase bandwidth – you can basically hack your router by installing a software known as “DD-WRT.” It provides you with amazing security adjustments and enhancements to your router and significantly improves bandwidth. BUT, this could be potentially dangerous for your router if you have a weaker, older version. Most routers can handle an increase of up to 70 mW (milliwatts). Using this software you’ll be able to access your own network from much further away and undoubtedly improve your bandwidth.
